Farsighted? Nearsighted? Presbyopia?
Understanding the difference between vision problems

Vision problems are the result of changes in your eye's shape. When the shape changes, light may not be properly focused on your "retina" (the back part of your eyeball). Here are a few common problems associated with changes in the shape, or functionality, or your eye:

Farsighted
(also known as hyperopia)
You can see far away, but have difficulty focusing on near objects. Occurs when the eyeball is too short or the cornea is too flat, causing light to focus behind the retina.

Nearsighted
(also known as myopia)
You can see near, but have difficulty seeing objects in the distance. Occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea too steep, causing light to focus on the front of the retina.

Presbyopia

People often confuse this condition with farsightedness. Occurs when the lens loses its flexibility, preventing accurate focus on near objects. Associated with the normal aging of the eye.
